Rescue Horse Adoption - My Way to Ownership

When I was about to reach my 7th birthday, I was given a beautiful, big horse named Silver and spent two summers and two winters riding, loving, caring for, and showing him. I would ride my bike to the barn and back. Most of my free time was devoted to this horse and he was wonderful. Pink nuzzle, blue eyes, strong back. Loved how he smelled. I have a mark just above my knee from where he kicked my leg, surprised by my sudden pat on his backside. As an adult, one rainy Friday evening, my husband surprised me with a trip to the local Horse Expo and I was, once again, reminded of my deep love for these horse creatures. I loved all of them. Jumping right back into the wonderful world of horses, I have spent the last six years in a leadership role with my local association and on the back of many lesson horses, show horses and in the show ring competitively. I've decided now to return to my roots of just loving a horse one-on-one and providing a horse a home. In January, my friend Vicki and I adopted a rescue horse - a four-year-old Saddlebred gelding. His name is Bobby. My mother suggested a more formal name of Robert. Once we figure out his lineage we shall have a proper naming ceremony for him. He is on his way west from Massachusetts this week - it's a time of celebration and much excitement. We can't wait to welcome him home. In the meantime, we're busy preparing his box stall, buying buckets for water, salt licks and oats. In this blog I hope to document my new journey, with Bobby. I have a horse of my own!!
